Products not showing up in category listing after fresh installation of magento 1.4

Another problem we sorted out while developing with magento is after installation of magento 1.4 with sample data, all categories are showing up but when you view the categories it doesn’t show the products under the categories.

If you are the one who stuck up with the same problem follow the instructions and your problem would be solved.

1. Goto your admin panel, select System->Index management, Select all and select “Reindex data” from actions drop down and click on submit. It would take some time to re index it, once its finished. Go to front end and see your products are listed now.

If your products are not listed follow the remaining steps,

2. Goto admin panel, System->Manage Stores, Select the store name, by default it would be “Main Store“, Click to edit it, on the edit screen, See to it that “Root Category” points to your root catalog, ie., All the categories are been formed under this root catalog.

If its not pointing then make sure it points to your real root catalog. Then click on “Save Store” .

Now if you clear your cache and look your front end, you would see your products listed on the desired categories.

Please leave your thoughts as comments.

The suggestions for whether products are in inventory follows. Some will seem outrageous until initially you invest an time trying to determine this issue out:
    1. The products must be Identifiable in Choice.
    2. The products must be allowed.
    3. Item must have a inventory Amount.
    4. The item must be set to In Stock.
    5. If the strategy set not to notice inventory, it still has to have a inventory Amount and be set to In Stock.

Still didn't work, nothing is visible in both of the sub categories I made. On top of that, the sub categories show up in both store view, even if I checked them off.

    Helllo:

I am having the same problem. All products have been correctly imported into the back end along with photos, swatches and other attributes. I have tried the above options and still no solution. I just can't get the products to populate on the store front in the appropriate categories or at all for that matter.

I followed the instructions and disabled the cache, but no product within the categoy.
This first product was stock managed.
I disabled the management and voilà the product was rendered properly.
I enabled the management, expecting that it will vanish, but the product was still seen. Quite strange.
